Massage & Holistic Treatments Aftercare Advice

To help the healing process for the first 24hrs drink a little more water, reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake and if you smoke cutdown. My sole advice is to listen to your body, and insure you get plenty of rest. For Hopi Ear candling, avoid drafts and getting your ears wet.

Having holistic treatments can transform all areas of your life. Helping you to feel calmer, less stressed, solutions to problems become clearer and health issues made better or easier. Your energy levels can be increased, feeling more motivated, organised, and contented.

However occasionally these positive results take time to generate, especially if knowingly or unconsciously we have not been in a balanced state. This is the fundamental difference between holistic and conventional treatment. You gain so much more than just curing a condition as your whole wellbeing is tended to.

With conventional medicine the focus is on eliminating discomfort and curing disease, this gives a quick fix but doesn’t consider the deep-rooted causes. Therefore, a repeat cycle of being unwell or in pain can occur, or sometimes clearing one condition and then going on to develop another.

The aim with holistic treatments is to address the underlying cause of the pain and illness, restoring the body’s energy flow into a health balanced state. Occasionally after a treatment you can feel worse before you feel better, this is called a healing crisis, which I will discuss in further detail later. Firstly, I want to explain what I often refer to as energy flow and balanced state.

Qi or chi — pronounced "chee" — is the energy flow created along the pathways that connect the acupuncture points on the body. The pathways between the points are called meridians, which also connect to internal organs in the body. Qi is the central underlying principle in Chinese traditional medicine and in Chinese martial arts.

When our body becomes unbalanced it means the flow of energy through the meridians has become stagnant. A way to describe the Qi stagnation would be comparable to squeezing a hosepipe so the water can’t flow as well as it should. Another comparison is an electrical circuit with glitches. The factors that cause Qi to not flow optimally is often the result of mental and emotional stress. Examples of physical causes can be lack of exercise, poor diet habits, lack of sleep, or a combined cause.

During a holistic treatment, the Qi is encouraged to flow more efficiently to aid healing. A healing crisis happens when there is an intense release of stagnant energy. (the hold of the hosepipe is released) This causes like a shock wave effect, causing you to feel worse before you feel better.

There is nothing to be alarmed about if you do experience a healing crisis, it is a positive sign that the healing process is taking place. The symptoms of a healing crises will be variable, examples could be a headache, nausea, dizziness, aching and fatigue, often your current conditions can intensify. Typically, the onset of these symptoms is very rapid. You may experience some symptoms immediately after a treatment, or up to 2 to 3 days later. The worst of the symptoms may last as little as a few hours or as long as several days. The longer the symptoms last, the stronger the healing crisis. If you experience a healing crisis it is always good to have another treatment a week later to aid further healing, to ensure your body reaches optimal health. Always listen to your body if you have cause for concern medical advice should be taken.

Psychology you may feel teary, angry, or depressed after, which is just emotions that are suddenly surfacing and releasing. If this last for longer than a week I would recommend another treatment to help release these emotions further. I can help you to work through any difficulties, enabling you to let go and strengthen yourself into a better space.
